Shorter High School Year Book 1947
Found a reprint of a previously owned Shorter High School 1947 year book, "The Gold Star" on Amazon.com. Its a soft copy reprint dated 1 May 1947 for class year 1946-1947, immediately following the end of World War II. No details about its content shown on the webpage. Price is pretty high at $75.95! If anyone has an old copy of Shorter High School year books, and is willing to look up some last names, that would save me a bundle. Drop me a note.
Also, found an online e-book "Making A Way: Ulysses Byas..." with good history of post-1950's Macon County schools. Fascinating history! Looks like Shorter High School became Wolfe-Shorter High School at some point. Still unclear if even earlier, did Shorter High School replace Cross Keys High School?
While looking around online, found and read about Macon Academy which moved from Macon County to Montgomery County under the name Macon-East Montgomery Academy (or Macon East Academy or Macon East for short). Learned it is the first "segregation academy in Alabama" established under Gov. Wallace. Interestingly, its location in Cecil, AL is not far from the location of the old Nathaniel Simmons farmland in the Cross Keys area.
